Adam Proteau: Consistently disappointing Avs need a major shakeup to their snow globe Once again, the Colorado Avalanche have gotten off to a poor start to the season. And although teams are far more often than not cautious about making changes to their core, the example set by the Edmonton Oilers over the past decade should make it clear to Avs fans and management: the time for patience with Colorado's core is over. A major shakeup is due.

the guy who built this roster? Yeah he was the problem. 3/4 of the current team are his guys that he had a hand in adding or is fully responsible for adding

Iggy, Beauchemin, Comeau, Soderberg, Stuart and his awesome 3.4m of dead cap space, extending Mitchell and McLeod. The Conner Bleackley pick, the Briere trade, the Boedker trade....that was Patty

All moves that Roy had a hand in the 1st 2 years of the Roykic era. It wasnt until

There can always be more than one problem. People get caught up on the idea that it is the coach or the players or management. Often it can be all of them at the same time!

One problem leaving doesn't mean the issue will be resolved. Often have to deal with all of it.

The problem is that it's so freaking hard to move skilled forwards for the kind of defensemen Colorado needs

I don't doubt that Matt Duchene is a 50-65 point, Top 6 forward. The problem is that teams are more willing to do without a player with his skillset than move a comparable defender in ability

What I'm trying to say: If they make a move, it's going to look a lot more like "Hall for Larsson" than some are going to want to admit

Never know. Hall for Larsson is brought up alot but rarely mentioned is the a RJ for Jones trade. Sometimes it works.

Also am I wasting my time waiting for MacKinnon to break out? Thought he would be a 70-80 point player consistently by now. His best season was his rookie year and he just seems to have plateud. He's still way young but those numbers are a tad disappointing.

its not from lake of skill or effort. The guy is Top 10 in shots this season...I actually think he might be cursed.

When they are playing him with Rene Bourque...the Avs winger depth really hurts their stars. When they load up that line and put Mack, Dutch, Landy or Rantanen together, they produce. But there is no depth on the 2nd and 3rd lines so they get slaughtered.

Avs just need better players to build around MacK, Dutch, Landy, and Rantanen.
No one is scared of a Top 9 with Comeau, Soderberg, Iggy, Rene Bourque, and Grigorenko

I wouldn't get too carried away with the "Hall for Larsson will fix the problem" logic. Yes Colorado needs more defense, but Hall for Larsson is not what fixed Edmonton's woes...drafting Connor McDavid was. Without a Connor McDavid in the mix, trading Duchene or MacKinnon for Seth Jones or someone like that isn't going to fix Colorado's issues.

It sounds like the shakeup you need is to trade Duchene for Shane Prince, IMHO tbh.
